Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

BookSignal is operated by BookSignal LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company (“we,” “our,” or “us”). Our service is available at booksignal.app.

2. Information we collect

• Account information: email address, author name or display name, and password (stored as a secure hash by our auth provider, Supabase).
• Manuscript files: EPUB or PDF files you upload. These are processed to generate your Book Fingerprint, kept for one week after processing finishes in case the analysis has to be re-run, and then deleted automatically. See Data Retention below.
• Reading preferences: genre preferences, trope preferences, pacing and tone preferences collected during onboarding, and behavioral signals (books added to shelf, books skipped).
• Usage data: pages visited, features used, and device/browser information collected via PostHog analytics.
• Advertising pixel data: we use the Meta (Facebook) Pixel and Google Analytics (including Google Ads tags) to measure website performance and to show relevant ads to people who have visited our site on Facebook, Instagram, and Google platforms. These tools may collect your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and actions taken on the site. This data is only collected after you accept cookies via our consent banner.

3. How we use your information

• To provide and improve the BookSignal service.
• To generate AI-powered book intelligence reports for authors.
• To match readers with books based on their taste profiles.
• To send transactional emails (account confirmation, recommendation digests).
• To analyze usage patterns and improve the platform.
• To run advertising campaigns and retargeting on Facebook, Instagram, and Google platforms, based on your consent.

4. Data sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the third-party services necessary to operate BookSignal:

• Supabase: authentication and database hosting
• Anthropic: AI analysis of manuscript content
• Resend: transactional email delivery
• PostHog: product analytics
• Meta (Facebook): advertising and retargeting via the Meta Pixel (consent-gated)
• Google: advertising and analytics via Google Analytics and Google Ads tags (consent-gated)
• Vercel / Railway: application and worker hosting

5. Data retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account and all associated data at any time directly from your account settings page in the dashboard (no need to contact us).

Uploaded manuscript files are kept for one week after your book has been processed successfully, then deleted automatically from our storage. That week exists so you can review your results and so we can re-run the analysis if something went wrong. Your manuscript is never published, sold, or shown to readers at any point. After the file is deleted, only the structured fingerprint and the listing details you provided remain. Deleting your account removes your uploaded files straight away, without waiting for that window.

6. Cookies

We use cookies for authentication (session management via Supabase), product analytics (PostHog), and (with your consent) advertising and measurement (Meta Pixel, Google Analytics, Google Ads). You can manage cookie preferences through our consent banner. Disabling cookies may affect your ability to sign in. To opt out of advertising cookies specifically, decline cookies via our consent banner or use browser-level controls (e.g., browser privacy settings or the Meta Off-Facebook Activity tool).

We also set one first-party cookie named bs_vid when you view a book page. It holds a random identifier, expires after one year, and exists only so that repeat visits to a book can be counted separately from visits by different people. This is used to give authors accurate visitor counts for their own books. It is not linked to your identity, is never shared with anyone, and is not used for advertising or for tracking you across other websites.

7. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To delete your account and all associated data, use the account settings page in your dashboard. For other data rights requests, contact support@booksignal.app.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a prominent notice on the site. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.
