Of Love And Mercy

The story that began in Of Shadows and Justice now concludes.

Four fugitives slipped the city with their lives and little else. They know the truth of their situation now, and the truth is cruel: of the four, only Eric can ever be cleared. Volk carries a guilt that is real. Mathan's innocence died with the only witnesses. And Fiara flees a hunter that does not tire, does not forgive, and does not stop.

There is no salvation for them. So they will spend what freedom remains buying salvation for someone else.

Leaving safety behind, they take the back roads to the place where it all began, the scene of the murder Eric did not commit, hoping fresh eyes can find what the Watch would not. But the conspiracy that framed them is still weaving, the city's justice and the docks' vengeance are converging on the same names, and something in the dark has never lost their scent.

Before the end, each of them will learn what the Aspects have always known: that love makes beginnings, that endings belong to no one, and that mercy can be the cruelest sentence of all.
